Vins Insubmisos (Insubordinate Wines) is a wine fair that gives voice and visibility to the small growers of the Penedès, the wine region near Barcelona. This is a case of a wine festival poster campaign: we worked on two consecutive editions, 2025 and 2026, with the same premise and two very different graphic answers.
The challenge
The Penedès is a wine region where large houses coexist with many small producers. Vins Insubmisos, organized by La Gueralda, the Casal Popular (a community-run cultural center) of Vilafranca, celebrates quality wine and supports the wineries that sit outside the big commercial circuits. The challenge was to capture the project’s spirit of protest with bold imagery that turned the traditional story of the wine world upside down and gave value to those who often go unrepresented. We had to stay away from the elegant glass and the vineyard landscape, and speak for a fair with a position.
The process
For the 2025 edition we drew on activist imagery to set up a parallel between the struggle of small producers and an industry dominated by large corporations. The poster is direct and combative: very large black type on a white background, spilt wine and a broken bottle. We made variations of the same poster, with shattered glass, a broken glass over a wine stain and a stream of dark wine. It was pasted on street boards among other posters.
For the 2026 edition we started from one of the most iconic images in the collective imagination, that of crushing fascism, and reinterpreted it: a wine bottle crushing a beer can. The poster moves to a palette of lilac, fluorescent yellow and red, with a dotted, pixelated texture and brush-made lettering, and it carries the program of the fourth edition: a talk, two wine tastings, the fair of local wineries with a food stall, and electronic music.
Around the posters we made the logo, a red flame with the name in condensed black type, which was applied to stickers and screen printed on wine glasses. We also made the animation for both editions.
The result
Vins Insubmisos has an image that is recognizable from one edition to the next even though the posters do not look alike: the flame, the tone of protest and the humor carry over. Each year it reinterprets its own graphic gesture, with punch and humor, and stands up for the product and for local farmers over industrial consumption.
For us it shows how a poster can defend a cause without losing its job as information. If you organize a fair or a festival with a clear position and want a campaign that communicates it, we can work on it from the idea through to the posters and the animation.
